Holiday Travel Tips: How to Plan for Your Next Holiday
The warmth and comfort of stoked fires, the heavenly smell of fresh pine, festive music playing everywhere, and holiday cheer in the air; it’s that time of the year again!
Starting with Thanksgiving and ending with the New Year, the Holiday season is a wonderful time for friends and families to be one again and celebrate the spirit of the season.
However, the one thing that a lot of don’t look forward to is travelling during this time.
Travelling during the holiday season is notoriously stressful and tedious. Everyone wishing to be back home with family during the holidays translates into jam-packed highways and booked out flights.
But it isn’t all bad news. With a little planning and forethought, travelling during holiday season can be much easier.
Travel During Off-Peak Time
You can avoid some of the crowd by travelling either before or during the holiday itself. Peak travelling time for Thanksgiving, especially, is Wednesday and the following Sunday. For Christmas, it’s the Friday before the holiday and the Monday afterwards. Also, the first and last flights of the day are comparatively less crowded and cheaper.
Pack Wisely
Unlike the Holiday spirit, when it comes to packing, the more is definitely not the merrier. You should pack wisely and pack light. Only take the most essential items with you so that you don’t have a lot of luggage to tow around. This way you won’t have to wait endlessly at baggage claims or worry about getting important luggage lost while traveling.
Always Book Early
Whether you’re booking a plane ticket or a car service, it is wiser to do it in advance. If you leave it until the last moment, you will risk not having any convenient means of getting back home for the holidays. Arrange everything early so that you get the best deals and don’t have to worry about things at the eleventh hour.
Travel Early or Late in the Day
Travelling while everyone else is sleeping, early in the morning or late at night, is a smart way of avoid all that Holiday traffic and congestion. Plus, if you hit any roadblocks (figurative or literal) on the way, you’ll have plenty of time to do damage control.
Don’t Drive Yourself to the Airport
If you’re travelling by plane for the holidays, don’t drive yourself to the airport. Minimize driving stress by not driving yourself to the airport. Look into booking airport transportation services that can conveniently take you to and fro from the airport.
